Frequently Asked Questions

I think my plant has this disease - now what?

If, after reviewing the screening questions, you suspect that your plant may be infected with P. ramorum, we encourage you to submit the sample for diagnosis via the DDDI system (Distance Diagnostics through Digital Imaging). The DDDI service is available as a free service at your local University of Illinois Extension Unit office. A digital image will be taken by extension staff and the sample will be entered via DDDI software at that office. Images are viewed by state extension specialists. If the images suggest a possible sudden oak death/P. ramorum blight positive, the submitter will be instructed on how to send the sample to the University of Illinois Plant Clinic. A completed Plant Clinic specimen data form must accompany any sample sent to the Plant Clinic.

NOTE: The Plant Clinic fee for samples pre-screened using the DDDI system will be $12.50. However, if a sample is sent directly to the Plant Clinic without DDDI pre-screening, the fee is $25.00.
